Abdoulaye Doucoure reveals Everton new contract 'position' and makes admission over future

Abdoulaye Doucoure wants to commit his future to Everton, though initial talks have not yet led to progress.

The 29-year-old has one year left on his current contract and the club does have an option of a 12 month extension. While discussions have taken place over his future beyond June 2023 there has not been a breakthrough to date.

Doucoure is keen to pledge his long-term future to the Blues and believes he has plenty to offer over the coming years. Speaking from the club's US tour HQ in Washington DC, he said: "I spoke to the club. They know my position. I want to stay here for much longer."

Doucoure arrived on Merseyside from Watford in the summer of 2020. The box-to-box midfielder made 30 appearances in the Premier League last season, fighting back from an injury suffered against Aston Villa in January to become an important component in the side that produced a late run of form under Frank Lampard to avoid relegation.

He is enjoying his time on Merseyside and wants to extend it beyond his current contract. Doucoure, who made his international debut for Mali earlier this year, said: "With one year left, you want to know what is going on. But at the moment everything is a bit calm. Let's see before the end of the transfer window how it can change. Maybe the club have time to reflect on me and see how they want to plan with me in the future.

"I enjoy being here a lot. I want to commit to the club for the future. For three or four years more. I enjoy the atmosphere and have more to give to the club. Let's see if the club have the same reflections as me and we can work together."
