ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus has opened up about his new found love.
The 77-year-old music legend, who announced the end of his 41-year marriage just months ago, showed off his new flame on Tuesday.
The couple made their debut at the premiere of his new musical.
Bjorn, now dating product manager Christina Sas, 49, has adapted a story from Sweden’s popular children’s book series Pippi Longstocking to create Pippi at the Circus.
He said: “This is my partner Christina. We’ve been dating for a while, and I felt I wanted to take her to this event. So this is the first time we kind of go out together.”
When asked how long they had been seeing each other, Bjorn told a Swedish journalist: “We have been dating for a short time.”
Christina, who was wearing a necklace which said Bjorn, works for Universal Music Group, which recently released ABBA’s recent album Voyage.
In February, Bjorn and his wife Lena Kallersjo, who have two children, announced their split.
In a joint statement, they said: “After many fine and eventful years, we have decided to divorce. We remain close and good friends and will continue to celebrate our grandchildren’s birthdays and other family celebrations together.”
They met at a New Year’s party at the home of bandmates Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad and began dating soon after Bjorn split from ABBA singer Agnetha Faltskog.
Bjorn and Agnetha married in 1971 before the band became famous.
When their marriage ended, Agnetha was said to have needed counselling. She had struggled to spend so much time away from their children, Linda and Peter, while ABBA toured.
Their break-up inspired soul-searching lyrics, such as on The Winner Takes It All.
Bjorn wrote: “But tell me, does she kiss/ Like I used to kiss you?/Does it feel the same/When she calls your name?”
He said of Lena: “We really fell in love like lightning. So strange that you’re a bachelor for a week, then fall there right away.”
Benny and Anni-Frid later divorced in 1981.
ABBA broke up in 1982 but made a comeback last year with new music and their ABBA-tar concert, which earned five-star reviews, including in the Mirror.
