Amidst the poignant cries of abandoned animals, Feven Melese, a 29-year-old music graduate, has become a vital lifeline for thousands of stray dogs in Addis Ababa. She has established a rare shelter on the city's outskirts, providing food and accommodation for 40 canines, while also feeding approximately 700 others on the streets each week.
In the past two years, Ms Melese reports successfully rehoming over 300 dogs. Alongside fellow young animal rights activists, she is on a mission to challenge the widespread Ethiopian perception of dogs as mere protectors, advocating instead for their recognition as cherished pets.
