Aaron Wan-Bissaka details aim Erik ten Hag has set him at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag wishes for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to be as impactful going forward as well as defensively, the defender has revealed.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful resurgence since Christmas having played just four minutes before the World Cup. He is now Ten Hag’s favoured right-back having started six of the last seven Premier League matches.

It is quite the comeback from Wan-Bissaka, who was offered to clubs with no takers last summer. During his spell back in the side, he has put in a number of memorable performances, having quelled the likes of Phil Foden, Gabriel Martinelli and Sergi Roberto this season.

He has achieved 13 clean sheets as a result of his sturdy play. However, Ten Hag has called for him to be as influential going forward, having not produced a goal contribution since December's League Cup assist against Aston Villa during his first start under his new boss.

Asked what his manager has been asking of him by club media, Wan-Bissaka said: "Just to be proactive at both ends of the pitch. I understand what he demands and just where he wants me on the pitch, you know, and also what he wants from the whole squad."

Wan-Bissaka says he is grateful for the opportunities he has been given since the World Cup break. He added: "What's changed? I'm playing, I'd say. It's a good feeling. I'm happy that I'm being given the chance to play under this manager, and I'm grateful for the chance."

Wan-Bissaka has played 31 United matches this season having started 25 of them. His role in the side next season is not secure, though, with United in talks for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
