Aaron Rodgers Praises Jets’ Garrett Wilson With Lofty Comparison to Top NFL Receiver

It’s been more than a week since Aaron Rodgers was officially traded to the Jets, ending speculation of where the four-time MVP would begin his next NFL chapter.

Since the blockbuster trade, Rodgers has taken part in New York’s offseason program, allowing him time to acclimate to the franchise as well as throw to a new set of wide receivers. In some ways, the fresh start resembles how Rodgers spent his final season with the Packers as he adjusted to an offensive system without star receiver Davante Adams, who was traded to the Raiders ahead of the 2022 season.

While Rodgers is now in the Big Apple and Adams remains in Las Vegas, the 39-year-old said that one of his new targets—second-year receiver Garrett Wilson—has a “similar” skillset to that of Adams.

“He’s a talented guy,” Rodgers said of Wilson Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show. “I threw his a pass today [Tuesday] and just kind of turned and was like ‘wow.’ . . . His ability to kind of get in and out of his breaks. There’s another 17 [Davante Adams] I played with for a long time who does it better than anybody. The explosiveness in and out of breaks, the 17 here, is pretty similar.”

During his tenure in Green Bay, Adams caught 622 passes on 937 targets from Rodgers for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns. During his rookie season, Wilson led the Jets in receiving yards with 1,103 yards and four touchdowns on 83 receptions while averaging 13.3 yards per catch.

With Rodgers now throwing to the second-year wide receiver, Wilson could see similar or higher production in the Jets’ offense in the 2023 campaign.
