Aaron Rodgers is only making things worse for the Packers, which isn’t a surprise

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

The Green Bay Packers are in the midst of a three-game losing streak that has seen them drop games to the Giants, Jets, and Commanders.

This week they travel to Buffalo to face arguably the best team in the National Football League.

They are staring 3-5 and a nightmare season right in the gosh darn eyes.

What’s one way to make all of this even worse for them?

Having their start quarterback going on one of the biggest shows in the country on his off day and telling the hosts that some of his teammates who keep making mistakes should be benched.

You know how you make that even worse? Having their star QB telling the same hosts that he graded out well in last Sunday’s loss and pretty much none of this is on him even though he didn’t know what they were doing during one point in the game.

That’s exactly what Aaron Rodgers did yesterday during his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show and it was not good for the Packers, at all.

Imagine you’re a member of the team and you looked at your phone yesterday and saw that your 38-year-old QB was sitting there basically talking you-know-what about guys on your squad when in actuality he hasn’t played up to his standards as well and deserves a lot of the blame for the struggles, too.

You’d probably be wondering why this guy who is supposed to be your team’s leader is doing the opposite of leading by you-know-whatting on your teammates out there in public for everyone to see and hear.

You might get a little upset about all of that, wouldn’t you?

You might start being over this dude a little bit, right?

I know I would!

Former teammate Greg Jennings blasted Rodgers for the comments he made yesterday and I have to think others who are still on the team feel the same way, which isn’t a great way to start turning things around.

None of this is a surprise, really. Aaron Rodgers has long been a fan of Aaron Rodgers and hearing him calling out other guys is like finding out water is wet or fast food is bad for your waistline.

There are better ways to be a leader during a rough stretch, like doing things behind closed doors and being a good example and coaching up young guys who might need some coaching up.

Sitting on your couch and blasting teammates on a huge platform is not the way to do that but that’s the path Rodgers took Tuesday and it could lead to more very bad times in Green Bay.

And if that does happen there will be one person who will deserve most of the blame – Aaron Rodgers.
