Aaron Rodgers was nothing but smiles Wednesday afternoon when he was officially introduced as the Jets’ new quarterback after a blockbuster trade from the Packers. Even after the official press conference was over, the good times kept rolling and the four-time MVP poked some fun at his new backup.
In January, Zach Wilson was posed a question about the team possibly bringing in a veteran quarterback during the offseason and the young signal-caller said, “I’m going to make that dude’s life hell in practice every day.” The quote has since gone viral since “that dude” is going to be one of the best quarterbacks who has ever lived.
Rodgers didn’t appear to take Wilson’s old quote too seriously, though.
“He’s going to make my life hell in practice . . . and I’m going to make his life heaven off the field,” Rodgers said Wednesday, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
It was even noticed on Twitter that Rodgers “liked” a video of Wilson saying the quote after the trade was first reported.
Wilson was drafted with the No. 2 pick in 2021 but he has struggled since entering the NFL. He was benched during the 2022 season and now he’ll serve as Rodgers’s backup for the foreseeable future.
