Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs claimed that he doesn't see a "big difference" between Jordan Love and Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers will be putting their faith in anew quarterback for the first time since 2007, after Rodgers traded to the New York Jets earlier this year. Jordan Love will be elevated from the back-up role to become the new franchise starter, something that was always on the cards after the quarterback was drafted by the Packers in 2020.
Love is a popular figure in the Packers locker room, but the youngster has big shoes to fill due to the legacy that Rodgers left behind. However, the 24-year-old already has the support from his team-mates and the feeling within the locker room is that their offense won't be hugely impacted.
"I think Jordan can do it. I think Jordan is a really good quarterback," Doubs told Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin. "When you go from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan, Aaron was a really great quarterback, but I believe Jordan can do the same exact thing.
"So I don’t really see what’s the big difference. I see a progression. I see it going up. I don’t see the Packers going down. I only focus on our room and our team in this organisation. This organisation is historic, and it’s only winning. That’s all. When you hear Green Bay, it’s no losing, it’s only winning."
The Packers have a young roster, and the average age has shifted considerably ever since 39-year-old Rodgers left the franchise. The organisation are without a doubt undergoing a rebuild after losing two major influences inside two seasons, and they've also lost both Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb this offseason as they followed Rodgers to the Jets.
After losing Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, the Packers struggled last season, and they'll have to adapt again without their long-term commander in Rodgers. But offensive tackle David Bakhtiari finds it disrespectful that people aren't giving Love enough credit after being named the man who will lead the Packers through the post-Rodgers era.
"How I look at is, it's disrespectful to say you're not rebuilding off a Hall of Fame quarterback," Bakhtiari said to ESPN on Wednesday after an OTA practice. "It was disrespectful to say you weren't rebuilding off of Brett Favre when you moved to Aaron.
"No one knew Aaron and what he was going to be, so I'm not going to sit here and like pull back those words because that is, when you look at how it's been building, how we were chasing after it and the cap – there was a bunch of situations that can definitely allude to it – we have a young team."
Rodgers himself thinks that Love has what it takes to be a "great player", as he opened up about his former team-mate when leaving the Packers. "Jordan's going to be a great player," Rodgers said. "He's a f****** great kid, he had a really good year this year, he's getting better. He's got a bright future in front of him. They've got a bright young team."
