Aaron Rodgers faces fresh NFL trade setback after New York Jets meeting

Aaron Rodgers' field of interested teams is now down to just one.

The New York Jets are reportedly in talks with the quarterback ahead of a potential blockbuster trade. It's a far cry from what many had expected at the beginning of the off-season, when reports floated around of a number of teams being interested in him - potentially starting a bidding war for the Green Bay Packer.

But now, the Las Vegas Raiders, who were said to be favourites to acquire him with Rodgers even flirting with the idea of joining them, have ruled themselves out of the running.

NBC's Peter King has reported: "There are a lot of people around the NFL that think that Mark Davis (Raiders owner) does not want, or can't, throw $60million (£50m) at Rodgers."

King has also added that no one but the Jets is "chasing after" Rodgers, who will now look to secure trade compensation with the Jets. That is reportedly set to be two first-round draft picks, with the franchise potentially taking less at this point and looking to start former first-round pick Jordan Love this season.

The Packers have already given Rodgers the greenlight to discuss a trade with the New York Jets, communicating with the team this week and is now set to speak with his current franchise on his future plans.

The move would make sense for the Jets. They have no clear path to drafting a quarterback in this year's loaded class and having a strong roster would suit Rodgers - with a strong offensive line and an emerging superstar at wide receiver in Garrett Wilson.

The Jets had reportedly been in on Derek Carr themselves, who was released from the Raiders, and held discussions with him before he joined the New Orleans Saints. The New York team had also been linked with a return for Geno Smith, before he re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Raiders have the seventh overall draft pick and may feel that they could have to move up in the draft to secure themselves one of Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Will Levis or Anthony Richardson.

Rodgers does still have four years left on his contract but could re-structure his deal to help facilitate a move to the Jets, knowing the team will most likely have to part way with their first-round pick in this year's exciting draft.
