Aaron Rodgers dragging his decision along is so exhausting

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning. Here’s Robert Zeglinski.

The Green Bay Packers’ 2022 season ended on January 8. That means, by my count, it’s been almost two months since Aaron Rodgers last threw a pass in a game. More importantly, it’s been nearly two months of speculation about the 39-year-old’s NFL future.

With the way Rodgers has talked lately, it sure feels like it’s been a lot longer than just two months. While I know (think?) this saga will eventually have a merciful end, I’m already over it. I’m pretty sure the Packers and GM Brian Gutekunst want a quicker resolution, too.

After the hoopla over his now infamous “darkness retreat,” Rodgers emerged from his, er, hole to talk about what’s next on The Aubrey Marcus Podcast. Did he offer any clarity about his situation? Did he throw any bone that there might, hopefully, be a conclusion, I don’t know … soon?

I can assure you he did not. What Rodgers did was, unsurprisingly, talk in long-winded circles about the past, the present, the future, and … his bowel movements. Oh, and the four-time MVP has been having many quality “conversations.”

Someone, please make it stop.

More from Rodgers on the podcast:

“I feel really good about the conversations that are going to be had, that have been had with important people in my life. Yourself included. But I’m not looking for somebody to tell me what the answer is. All the answers are right inside me.”

Come. On. Does that read to you like a guy with the answers “right inside” him? Are we even positive he’s talking about the Packers or football with that reference?

Aaron, if you read this, listen closely: No one (no one) is telling you what the “answer” is. It’s your career, your life. They, including me, just want you to reveal what said answer is sooner rather than later — or at all.

You better believe Rodgers continued:

“There’s a finality to the decision. I don’t make it lightly. I don’t want to drag anybody around. I’m answering questions about it because I got asked about it. I’m talking about it because it’s important to me. If you don’t like it and you think it’s drama, and you think I’m being a diva or whatever, then just tune it out.”

HAHAHA. What???

“I don’t want to drag anybody around” and “just tune it out” are some of the funniest things Rodgers has ever said.

Is this entire process what he calls fast? Does he think the NFL Media Monster would simply let us ignore someone like him being washy-washy? Fat chance.

I don’t know when Rodgers will decide on his future, but I’m already exhausted by him clearly drawing his next move out for attention. It’s at the point where I genuinely don’t even care about what he’ll choose, so long as he finally makes a choice.

Just do it! Why is this so hard?

Something tells me I’ll keep slowly pulling my hair out as Rodgers jumps on another show to discuss his feelings and contradict himself. Because let’s be honest: that’s all it seems like he really wants.
