Former Celtic manager John Barnes insists Rangers signing Aaron Ramsey will not be a deciding factor in the Premiership title race.
The Juventus midfielder arrived at Ibrox on-loan as the reigning champions pulled off a stunning deadline day coup.
Barnes still rates Rangers as favourites to prevail but not because they've signed the Wales international.
He expects Ange Postecoglou's side will still run them close as a derby clash at Celtic Park looms on Wednesday night.
Barnes told BonusCodeBets: "Rangers signing Ramsey won’t necessarily give them the edge over Celtic in the title race. It’s closer than it was last year - Celtic have improved and there’s only two points in it.
"Ramsey is not a Messi or Ronaldo who’ll score lots of goals. It’s a great signing but it won’t be the definitive factor in Rangers having the edge. They were probably slight favourites anyway and that’s added to it.
"Ramsey wasn’t playing at Juventus and at the stage of his career now and the age he is it’s a good signing.
"Scottish football is still always going to be a selling place and the best players will want to go to the Premier League.
"The best players in Europe aren’t suddenly going to want to move to Scotland just because Rangers have signed Ramsey."
