Aaron Ramsey won’t be handed an Old Firm baptism of fire as the Rangers new boy is forced to wait to make his Light Blues bow.
The Welsh superstar moved to Ibrox in a dramatic deadline day loan from Juventus and fans were hoping to see him in action in their derby showdown against Celtic at Parkhead.
But the game on Wednesday will come too soon for the 31-year-old, who was pictured training with his new team-mates, as boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst says he won’t be in the squad for the game.
The Dutchman, who also brought in young Polish right back Mateusz Zukowski, said: "To be able to bring in a player like Aaron is great and a lot of hard work from Ross Wilson to make it possible.
"Ramsey trained but too soon for tomorrow. I expect him in the squad in the near future.
"Filip Helander is still out and should be back in the coming weeks. Leon Balogun is back fit and available."
Skipper James Tavernier admitted Ramsey is a great addition to the champions squad.
“Aaron adds great depth to our squad. We have watched his quality over the years. It's great to see him added to our club."
Ahead of the Old Firm clash, Tavernier said: "Every fixture is different, we are focused on getting the result we want.
“As part of my responsibilities as a captain I like to help the squad, with Zukowski arriving I’ll give him all the advice I can but he is also there to help push me on further."
On losing three goals in the draw with Ross County, he added: "In football, you can have these matches every so often, Saturday was not like us at the back.
“We are not concerned and looking forward to returning to our standards.
“We know what we have to do and we have a gameplan to carry out. These are games we all want to play, we have to trust our plan and deliver it to the best we can.
“I was really impressed with Amad (Diallo) at the weekend. He can get at defenders and delighted to have him in front of me.
“We have progressed so much in my time here from the Academy to first tam and at the stadium.
“You can clearly see the direction we are going in and will continue to keep getting stronger."
