Pundit Mark WIlson has branded Aaron Ramsey a waste of money - insisting Rangers should have splashed the cash on John Souttar.
Ramsey has failed to hit the heights that were expected following his blockbuster loan move from Juventus with injuries limiting his chances.
The former Arsenal playmaker has only started one game, in the Scottish Cup against Annan, and is rapidly running out of time to make an impact at Ibrox.
Meanwhile, Souttar will leave Hearts in the summer after agreeing a pre-contract move to the Premiership champions.
Rangers had attempted to land the Scotland cap in January but couldn't agree a fee with Robbie Neilson's side.
Former Celtic defender Wilson reckons sporting director Ross Wilson would have been better splashing the cash on a defender for the title run-in.
He told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Rangers ' January business: "Certainly now when you look at it, but nobody could predict Aaron Ramsey was going to come in and play against Annan and get injured.
"We know he's got injury problems, but he was presumed fit when he signed. But he has been a waste of money.
"I know it's not anywhere near what people think he's getting paid, but that money could have went to John Souttar.
"I believe that John Souttar would have been in that side most games."
