Aaron Ramsey arrives in Glasgow to complete Rangers move as tantalising Old Firm debut vs Celtic awaits

Aaron Ramsey is on the verge of joining Rangers.

The Welshman is reportedly in Glasgow to complete a loan move to the Scottish champions in a deal that is likely to contain an option to buy.

The midfielder's future has been the subject of speculation for much of the January window, with a return to the Premier League seen as the most likely outcome.

Newcastle United, Burnley and Crystal Palace were among the early names to be mentioned, while reports in Germany had briefly suggested that Borussia Dortmund might also be interested.

The 31-year-old is not in the first-team plans of Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, and the Serie A outfit have been keen to get him off their wage bill as they bid to rebuild their squad.

Speculation has gently simmered away for most of January, with Ramsey facing up to an eventful deadline day that has yielded three offers believed to be on the table.

According to The Athletic, Rangers have now won the race for the midfielder, who could sign in time for Wednesday's OId Firm clash with Celtic on Wednesday night.

Whether Ramsey stands any chance of playing in that game given his recent lack of game-time remains to be seen, but it would be a huge baptism of fire.

The Old Firm is a feisty affair at the best of times, but Rangers travel to Celtic Park knowing that defeat would see them overtaken by their rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The transfer window in Scotland closes at midnight on Tuesday.
