Aaron Ramsdale delivers honest Premier League title verdict after heroic Liverpool saves

Aaron Ramsdale has delivered his verdict on Arsenal's chaotic Premier League draw against Liverpool in which he made two world class saves in the final stages. Goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus put the Gunners in control at Anfield after just half an hour, but Jurgen Klopp's men fought back with late strikes in the first and second half to snatch a point.

Mikel Arteta's men put in a dominant 42-minute display before a fiery clash between Granit Xhaka and Trent Alexander Arnold riled the home supporters. Less than two minutes after that altercation, Mohamed Salah pulled one back for Liverpool.

The league leaders then spent the majority of the second period camped in their own half before Liverpool's pressure paid off with Roberto Firmino converting an Alexander Arnold cross with just a few minutes of the 90 remaining.

With just under ten minutes to play, Arsenal could have seen their trip to Merseyside end in disappointment had it not been for Ramsdale. The Gunners shot-stopper first denied Salah with an excellent finger-tip save before somehow keeping out Ibrahima Konate's scrambling effort from close range. The two saves prompted significant reactions on commentary from Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville

"This is some save," Neville said when describing Ramsdale's stop to deny Salah. "The deflection, it makes it even more difficult for him. Who knows, that might win Arsenal the title, you never know."

Regarding his second save, Carragher said: "How did Konate miss Konate? didn’t know what to do, he just tried to stomach it in. Oh my. How much of an impact is this going to have on the title?" Despite the major claims from Carragher and Neville, Ramsdale remained humble when speaking about his own contributions.

"That’s what I’m there to do. I’ve enjoyed playing today," the 24-year-old said when asked about his outlandish saves. "There’s no better games to be playing in than these, which means so much for both teams. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the three points but at least my saves have helped us out.

Despite being in front for nearly 80 minutes, Ramsdale remained unsure over whether it was two points dropped or a point saved. "A bit of both. We managed to dig in at the end but we had some good chances when we come to Anfield and played it really well, but had to survive as well so I think right now it will be mixed emotions," he added.

"Over the next few days it’ll definitely be a very good point. Maybe [it was points dropped], but I’ve just walked off the pitch and we’ve just been under pressure for 35 minutes, whatever it was, and we’ve managed to get a point away at Anfield.

"They’re a top side, the crowd get right behind them so it might be two points dropped but we could have dropped one more at the same time."
