Aaron Mooy signs for Celtic as Australia international seals Ange Postecoglou reunion at Parkhead on a

Celtic have clinched a deal for Aaron Mooy as the Australia international becomes Ange Postecoglou’s sixth signing of the summer...minutes before Moritz Jenz became the seventh.

The 31-year-old will now hook up again with his former Socceroos boss at Parkhead. He became a free agent after reaching a mutual agreement with Chinese side Shanghai Port to terminate his contract after spending two years in the Far East and has signed a two-year deal with the champions. Mooy moved to China from Brighton & Hove Albion, his last club in Britain, who he joined from Huddersfield Town who he helped reach the Premier League while on loan from Manchester City before signing permanently.

The attacking midfielder also spent two years at St Mirren as a youngster and returns to the Scottish Premiership a decade after ending his stint in Paisley. Mooy has been capped 52 times for Australia and played under Postecoglou for the national team who he is hoping to travel to Qatar with this winter for the World Cup.

Ange Postecoglou said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring in both Aaron and Moritz to the club, and I’m sure they’ll be great additions to our squad. I obviously know Aaron from my time coaching the Australian national team, and he brings with him a wealth of experience at both club and international level.

“Moritz is a player we’ve been aware for a while now, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to sign him. They’ve already had the chance to meet the rest of the squad, and I’m sure they’ll settle in very quickly into what is a very welcoming group of players, and I know that our supporters will be looking forward to seeing them both in a Celtic jersey.”
