Aaron Hickey shares Scotland 'dream come true' as ex-Hearts star reveals Robertson and Tierney admiration

Aaron Hickey admits making his Scotland debut was 'a dream come true.'

Steve Clarke introduced the 19-year-old during the 1-1 draw with Poland at Hampden on Thursday night.

Hickey is enjoying a brilliant season with Bologna in Serie A and he was rewarded for his stunning form.

The former Hearts youngster insists it was a surreal moment - and one that he'll never forget.

"I'm happy," Hickey told the SFA. "Amazing for me and my family.

"It's a dream come true to play for my country so I'm just delighted.

"I was warming up on the sideline and Naisy (Steven Naismith) said 'it's you.'

"So I've ran back and took my bib off and I'm just like 'this is it, this is me playing for my country.'

"It's something I've been looking to do since I was a young kid so amazing for me.

"You just think 'this is what you've been waiting for and training for every day, to play for your country.'

Asked about the moment he was told of his call-up, he added: "I was a wee bit shocked.

"I tried to stay calm but from the first minute I was like 'this is mental, getting called up to play for your country in front of the fans.

"It's just an amazing achievement."

Hickey was deployed at left wing-back against Poland after he replaced Celtic star Greg Taylor.

Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney are Scotland boss Steve Clarke's first choices on the left but Hickey is relishing the chance to learn from the talented pair.

He added: "It's been good meeting up with all the boys. We've got some top players in there so it's been good chatting to them and training with them as well.

"It's a good experience for me and I'm just trying to take as much as I can in.

"(Robertson's) a class player. He was training this morning an it was great to play alongside him.

"Al the players around Scotland are top players.

"(Tierney) was great. Talking to me all the time and helping me stay calm (against Poland)."
