Aardman says new Wallace & Gromit film is coming to BBC and Netflix in 2024

Wallace & Gromit are set to return to our screens for a new film in 2024.

The as-yet-untitled film will be the sixth to feature the beloved pair in almost 35 years, and will be directed by original creator Nick Park.

It is the first Wallace & Gromit film since the 2008 BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated A Matter of Loaf and Death, which was the last major outing for actor Peter Sallis as Wallace before his death in 2017.

It's not yet known who will replace Sallis as Wallace, or who else will be in the voice cast.

Bristol animation company Aardman confirmed the exciting news today (Thursday, January 20).

It said on its website: "Directed by Wallace & Gromit creator Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham (Creative Director of Wallace & Gromit), the film sees Gromit becoming concerned that Wallace is a little too dependent on his inventions.

"When Wallace’s 'Smart Gnome' develops a mind of its own, it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master…or Wallace may never be able to invent again!"

The new film will premier exclusively on Netflix, with the exception of the UK, where it will debut first on the BBC.

The BBC has a long relationship with Aardman. This announcement follows the success of the latest Shaun The Sheep caper The Flight Before Christmas which aired on BBC One over the festive period.

The news comes as Aardman releases the cast for the new Chicken Run film, airing on Netflix in 2023.

The film, called Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, features the likes of Thandiwe Newton, Romesh Ranganathan and Imelda Staunton.
