AAP MP Raghav Chadha as Punjab advisory panel chief: Plea in HC

CHANDIGARH: A day after the Punjab government appointed AAP MP Raghav Chadha as the chairman of the temporary advisory committee on matters of public importance, a petition was filed before the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday, questioning its constitutional legality.

According to the petitioner, Chadha's appointment amounts to a parallel government within the government and is not permissible in the law. Asserting that the appointment would entail an unwarranted burden on the public exchequer, the petitioner has claimed that a minister rank had been conferred on the alleged temporary and ad hoc committee with all the facilities.

"Ministerial rank amounted to a berth in the state cabinet, which was not permissible constitutionally and was illegal and arbitrary. Raghav Chadha has been appointed at the instance of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and such an appointment clearly amounts to interference in the affairs of Punjab," the petitioner stated.
