'Corruption' in civic administration: Aaditya Thackeray seeks reply from BMC chief, plans to take legal action

MUMBAI: Former Maharashtra cabinet minister and MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday said that a volley of questions he put before the BMC commissioner IS Chahal through a letter sent on July 1 is yet to get any response.

Thackeray said that he will be raising the issue in the upcoming assembly session starting next week and also explore the legal route further.

On July 1 this month, Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Thackeray took a protest march to the BMC headquarters alleging corruption in the civic administration. He also wrote to the BMC commissioner on the same day, raising questions over why the Central Purchase Department of the Health Department was involved in inviting tenders for the works of the Roads Department.

"I had simply asked for the itemized market cost of items being ordered. While the BMC could have simply given that, it chose not to give that and open another scope for doubt here. The response states that four items have been purchased as per the Unified Schedule of Rates (USOR) of the BMC. Question is, when was this USOR last revised, and what items have been purchased as per that, in what quantity and what cost?," said Thackeray in his letter.

Thackeray said that if the BMC failed to provide timely answers to his questions in his capacity as an elected representative of the state, we shall have no choice than to raise these questions in the upcoming assembly session starting next week and explore legal ways.
