AA urges drivers to ignore speed camera myths and details how they really work

There are a number of myths as to how drivers can somehow trick speed cameras into not picking up a motorist travelling over the years. This has led to some people taking potentially dangerous actions to avoid getting a fine and points on their licence.

Speed cameras were first installed in the UK in 1991 in a bid to protect people while on the roads and pedestrians, Liverpool Echo reports. A study from London School of Economics conducted between 1992 - 2016 estimated speed cameras reduced deaths from road accidents by between 58% - 68%.

A whole host of tricks have since spread about how drivers can beat speed camera, but the AA warned drivers must ignore these dangerous myths. The motoring association said: "You shouldn't be trying to avoid getting caught. It's safer for everyone to stick to the limits - and the law - by not speeding in the first place."
