AA Hospitality Awards 2022: No new Bristol restaurants or hotels handed prizes this year

Bristol's hospitality scene has missed out on a prize at this year's AA Hospitality Awards which recognises some of the best restaurants and hotels in the UK. There were no new establishments in the Bristol area handed a prize, with Bath being the closest place to the city that was recognised.

The AA Hospitality Awards returned for an in-person event for the first time in three years on last night. The ceremony rewards the best hospitality establishments in the UK across 26 categories. It was hosted by TV presenter Gaby Logan at Grosvenor House in London.

Some of the most coveted prizes included Restaurant of the Year and Hotel of the Year, separated into five regional categories - England, Wales, London, Scotland and Northern Ireland. For England, these were won by Socius, Burnham Market in Norfolk and Grantley Hall, Ripon in North Yorkshire respectively.

It names restaurants that have been newly-awarded rosettes and hotels that have been handed stars, a rating system set by AA to recognise culinary and hospitality excellence across the UK.

Just down the road in Bath, The Dower House Restaurant at the Royal Crescent Hotel was given three rosettes and Homewood hotel was awarded four red stars. Across the South West region, three rosettes were also handed to The Sea Cliff Restaurant at Sandy Cove Hotel in Ilfracombe, Devon and New Yard Restaurant in Helston, Cornwall.

Last year, the AA Restaurant Guide named 15 Bristol venues among 2,000 of the best restaurants in the UK. This included Adelina Yard, Berwick Lodge, The Pump House, Tare and veggie-centric Root.

The culinary guide ranks restaurants using the 'rosette' hierarchy - awarding between one and five rosettes, with the latter described by the AA as "the pinnacle, where cooking compares with the best in the world".
