Work to improve a stretch of the A52 in Gamston have been completed. The widening of the road and extra safety measures for cyclists and pedestrians are among the new features of the Gamston roundabout, which fully reopened to traffic yesterday (Tuesday, May 30).
Work on the National Highways scheme first began in January 2022, with the work initially expected to take a year. But bad weather has continually delayed the project, with rain having prevented teams from carrying out the final white lining and high-friction anti-skid surfacing.
The project included widening all three approaches to the roundabout to create extra lanes in order to reduce congestion and queuing. New traffic lights and a traffic-light controlled pedestrian crossing have been installed to improve safety, and a dedicated bus lane added on the roundabout to improve the flow of public transport.
National Highways Senior Project Manager Nick Medlicott said: “These improvements will bring real benefits to road users in terms of cutting congestion, particularly at peak times, and improving safety. We are delighted to have opened to traffic today and thank road users and local residents for their patience while we’ve been carrying out the work.”
The work has caused several overnight closures. The closures have previously been delayed to accommodate football fans leaving the City Ground.
The Gamston roundabout project is part of a broader project to make improvements at several junctions along the A52 in Nottingham, with a provisional end date for the project of 2027.
