Two people have been taken to hospital following a "serious collision" on the A470 on Wednesday. Police have warned motorists that the road is likely to be closed "for some time".
The A470 between Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon has been closed since around 5am following a one-vehicle crash at Storey Arms. Two people have been taken to hospital.
Traffic Wales South said there was "heavy congestion" on the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road while the closure is affecting traffic between Hirwaun and the Defynnog turn-off. According to traffic monitoring system Inrix the road closure has been extended to help with traffic management. Northbound traffic will not be able to join from Cefn Coed roundabout.
A spokesman from Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Officers are at the scene of a serious collision involving one car on the A470 Storey Arms to Brecon following a report at shortly after 5am. Two people have been taken to hospital. The road is likely to be closed for a number of hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area." The A470 road closure is also having an impact on traffic along the A465 in the Merthyr Tydfil area.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called shortly after 5am on Wednesday, March 22, to reports of a road traffic accident on the A470 at Storey Arms in Brecon. We sent four emergency ambulances to the scene where crews were also supported by a high-acuity response unit paramedic, a duty operations manager, and the emergency medical retrieval and transfer service.”
