A section of the ring road on the edge of Bristol was closed for several hours last night.

Part of the A4174 was closed between 9.30pm last night (April 19) and 12.40am this morning. Avon and Somerset Police said the closure was necessary due to a concern for welfare incident.

In a statement, the force said: "A section of the A4174 was closed last night between 9.30pm and 12.40am due to a concern for welfare incident."

BristolLive understands the road was shut on both sides of the carriageway between Downend and Warmley. Police did not provide any further details about what happened.

Over the weekend a moped rider died in a crash at the through-about on the A4174 Avon Ring Road. Police closed the Wraxall Road through-about as a large number of emergency service crews attended, but sadly the teenager died at the scene.
