The A1M has reopened in County Durham after officers closed the road for two hours due to a "police incident".
Emergency services were called shortly after 7.30am on Saturday morning to an incident at junction 58 of the A1 near Darlington. As a result, the road was closed between junctions 57 and 58 (Burtree interchange) in both directions.
It is thought the emergency services were called to help deal with someone in crisis on an overhead bridge.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area whilst the incident was dealt with and National Highways provided diversion details about both northbound and southbound routes. The road fully reopened at about 10am after the incident was brought to a "safe conclusion".
A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said at the time: "Officers are currently dealing with an incident on the A1(M). A road closure is in place between junctions 57 and 58 (Burtree interchange) in both directions. Please avoid the area and seek an alternative route while we deal with the incident."
The North East Ambulance Service confirmed they attended the scene and sent two Hazardous Area Response Teams but they were both stood down at the scene.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call to 999 at 7:37am this morning to an incident at junction 58 of the A1 near Darlington. We sent two Hazardous Area Response Teams and police colleagues also attended. Both resources were stood down on scene."
