Police have warned motorists of a road accident affecting traffic in the Newry area and those travelling northwards on the motorway.
The A1 heading north is currently closed as emergency services deal with the aftermath of a crash near the Camlough Road Roundabout.
Several fire crews were pictured at the scene as darkness and rain fell on Tuesday evening.
A statement from PSNI Newry, Mourne and Down at around 8pm said: "The A1 Northbound just before the Camlough Road roundabout is closed due to a road traffic collision this evening, Tuesday October 25.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative main routes for their journey."
