It had been a dream for many a Bristolian and Neighbours-fan alike that at some point soap legend Jason Donavan would pay a visit to the Bristol kebab van named in his honour. That dream finally became a reality exactly one year ago thanks to Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.
The former Neighbours star surprised everyone on the Ant & Dec ITV show on March 5 last year, when he joined Andi Peters in Bristol and tucked into a kebab from the Jason Donervan food van, which is usually based on the Triangle in Clifton.
The appearance of the infamous Bristol kebab van on the Saturday night show had been planned as part of a segment by Andi Peters, who had been travelling the length and breadth of the UK to visit 'punny' food vans.

During the segment Andi Peters and Jason Donervan's owner exchanged a number of quips, with the latter telling Andi: "I was promised I'd get to meet Ant & Dec", to which Andi replied: "I was promised I'd get to meet a soapstar".
Andi then asked the team at the Jason Donervan if its namesake Jason Donovan (the Neighbours star) had ever visited and, when they said "no", he then spoke to the camera and called on Jason to come and get a kebab "literally with your name on it".
Ant & Dec's show continued in the studio but then the camera flashed back to Andi Peters in Bristol again, and, to everyone's surprise, Jason Donovan emerged from the crowd to grab a takeaway from the Bristol legend, calling it "pretty special".
Those among the crowd said that nobody knew he was coming and, when filming was done, Jason posed for photos with the Jason Donervan team before leaving in a limo.
But Jason wasn’t done, he made sure to give the legendary kebab van a shout out on social media later, as well as a five star review.
On his Instagram stories the following day (March 6), he shared a still from the show, which showed him with a mouthful of kebab in front of the van, and wrote: "What can you say... The ultimate compliment! A 'Donner Van' named after you...Does not get better than this."
Here’s hoping he returns to the city again to visit the Jason Donervan team and get another kebab.
