Manchester United and Newcastle fans have been reacting to transfer talks between the two clubs over a loan move for Jesse Lingard.
Manchester Evening News on Wednesday exclusively revealed that the Magpies were working on a deal lasting until the end of the season.
Lingard, 29, is out of contract in the summer and has continued to struggle for first-team minutes under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick despite an impressive loan spell with West Ham last season.
Newcastle's interest could prove to be the last chance for United to secure a fee for the playmaker. Newcastle are willing to pay Lingard's £100,000-a-week wages and West Ham paid £1.5million for a similar deal 12 months ago.
The news was largely met positivity by Newcastle fans, but garnered a more mixed reaction from the United contingent.
Spurs are also interested in signing him permanently in the summer and it is unlikely the Reds would sanction a move that would benefit a rival above them in the Premier League table.
Heading into this month, it was expected that Lingard would remain at the club beyond the January transfer window but Newcastle's proposal would benefit all parties.
