It is almost October, and Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos have yet to record a win. Sunday’s embarrassing laugh of a loss to the Miami Dolphins — where Denver surrendered an unthinkable 70 points — was unquestionably an early rock bottom.
And based on Payton’s shortness after the game, he certainly understood that reality.
A reporter started asking Payton about the Broncos’ historic margin of defeat. But before they got to their question, they tried adding additional context to what they were saying. A frustrated Payton didn’t even let the reporter get to their question.
He cut them off and moved on without a second thought:
Awkward exchange between Sean Payton and a reporter, who asked how the #Broncos coach feels about the historically bad loss.
"What's the question? What's the question? I just finished telling you. Next question," Payton said. pic.twitter.com/EwE55LvvLh

In a way, even with the Denver Nuggets’ recent NBA title, the Broncos are still easily the most popular team in town. Denver is a football city when it comes to sports first. For Payton to sit winless three weeks in after all the hype about his arrival in the offseason is a failure. And he knows it.
The above clip reads like a guy who might already be in over his head.
This was how Twitter reacted to Payton's shortness
I'll give any reporter in Denver $100 if they ask Sean Payton where this game ranks in the "worst coaching jobs in NFL history." https://t.co/oMZE0w6gmx

How do you say someone else is the worst coach in history then let someone hang 70 on you https://t.co/BvnTfzdm65

Is Sean Payton regretting taking on the HC job in Denver? https://t.co/NP7blb8Wo0

Ranking the worst consequences of the Aaron Rodgers injury
1) Playoff drought likely continues
2) Not being able to beat Sean Payton’s Broncos by 100 https://t.co/wyZKHDf60G— Tyler Kirk (@TylerIanKirk) September 25, 2023
I’m glad we didn’t trade a 1st for Sean Payton. Drew Brees carried him heavily along with that stacked defensive roster they’ve always had. Dude is overrated https://t.co/iVpGZ4Z7V2

Lmao and people really thought he was going to turn the Broncos around https://t.co/3flWKxpqkB

LOL 😆, Payton ain’t gonna last in Denver. Sean Payton in Denver will exactly be like John Beilein in the NBA. It won’t last a full season. https://t.co/AGfNL22co0
