‘A spiritual girlfriend’: Peruvian delivery man found carrying ancient mummy in cooler bag

Police in Peru made a suprising discovery when they searched a man came to their attention for drunk behaviour at an archaeological site in Puno.

The delivery man man was found to be carrying a bandaged mummy in his cooler bag.

Police searched the man after he was seen drinking alcohol at an archaeological site. They then discovered the mummy, which experts believe to be between 600 to 800 years old.

The man said he had put the mummified remains, which he nicknamed Juanita, in the bag to show to friends.

He added that he considered the body a “spiritual girlfriend” which he kept it in a box next to the TV in his room.

The mummy had belonged to his father, although he didn’t explain how it had come into his possession, he said.

The body is believed to be of a 45-year-old male who was approximately 4’11” in height.

Police have seized the remains and given it to the ministry of culture.

The man and his two friends have been detained and are being investigated for crimes against Peru’s cultural heritage.
