A mum says she's been left in an upsetting situation after her daughter was accused of "stealing" her friend's pricey shampoo. Now the girl's parents are demanding they pay £30 for a replacement bottle.
According to this distressed mother, her 12-year-old daughter swims around four to five times a week with her swim club, and shares a locker with a pal that they rent jointly on a yearly basis.
In this locker, the girls keep their own personal items separately and also have a bag for bits that they don't mind sharing with each other. Therefore, when her friend was away for a week, the woman's daughter thought nothing of using shampoo from the shared bag, which appeared to be in a supermarket-branded bottle.
All hell broke loose however when the friend returned, and proceeded to accuse her locker mate of "stealing" her "expensive" shampoo.
Taking to Mumsnet, the dismayed mother revealed: "Apparently it's a 'designer' brand that they had decanted into the own-brand bottle and they deny leaving it in the shared section and claim my daughter took it on purpose (worth noting here it would not have served her hair type well in any way!).
"We have already stood our ground (it was ugly) and thought it had gone away but they've started demanding a replacement again after today's training session. They want my daughter to give them £30!"
She continued: "Part of me thinks we should just give them the cash and never have dealings with them again but the other part of me is questioning what example that sets for our daughter - just acquiesce every time you're accused of something wrongly?!
"It's all b***** daft but has become very unpleasant which is very sad. Actually, don't tell me what to do, just persuade me that this sort of bonkersness is rare!!"
One fellow Mumsnet user advised: "Unless she used a ridiculous amount of shampoo they are trying it on. They sound pretty awful anyway. You have to be pretty mean to object to a child using your shampoo. Don't pay £30. Don't share a locker. (And what shampoos cost £30???)"
Another suggested: "I would buy the shampoo and decant two portions of it into a Tupperware tub to give them. They can then top up their special bottle AND will be up a whole wash. It goes without saying that they appear completely nuts."
