Athletics third baseman Aledmys Díaz earned an automatic strikeout against the Cubs when he committed a pitch clock violation in the bottom of the fourth inning Wednesday.
Díaz exited the batter’s box with a 2–2 count while appearing to focus his attention on one of his thumbs as if it were hurt. It’s unclear whether he was injured or not.
Oakland manager Mark Kotsay was extremely unhappy about the automatic strikeout. He stormed onto the field to speak with home plate umpire Adam Hamari, and the NBC Sports California broadcast picked up some of his fiery NSFW response.
“No, no, he’s f------ hurt,” Kotsay yelled. “Why does he have to tell you? He’s f------ standing here with his thumb. He’s f------ hurt. That’s b—s---.”

Not surprisingly, Kotsay was ejected after his spicy rant at Hamari. It marks the first time this season that the A’s manager has been ejected from a game.
