A physicist has found a surprising flaw in Star Trek’s Picard Maneuver — revealing that the real science behind the tactic is even stranger than the episode suggested

A famous battle tactic from Star Trek: The Next Generation may be more effective than the show ever suggested.

The manoeuvre, known as the Picard Maneuver, has long been remembered as one of the franchise’s cleverest examples of science-fiction strategy. It allowed Captain Jean-Luc Picard to confuse an enemy by making the USS Stargazer appear to be in two places at once.
