A passenger jumped out of a car to berate a cyclist the driver had almost hit

This is the moment a passenger jumps out of her car to remonstrate with a cyclist after the driver of the vehicle had cut a corner and almost hit him.

The cyclist - Gareth - said he was baffled" when the car attempted to cut the cornder into the junction of Brynteg Road and Pontardulais Road in Penyrheol, Swansea, despite the fact he was in the middle of the road waiting to turn

The car was heading straight into Gareth before slowing down just in time. Not content with simply waving an apology however, a passenger in the car jumped out of the vehicle - while still in the middle of the road - and yelled at him: "Get off the road… you’re going to cause an accident." Clearly oblivious to the irony of the situation as she herself is stood slap bang in the middle of the road.

The incident happened while Gareth was out on his own last October. It's clear from the tone in Gareth's voice as he shouts "Woah woah woah, what are you doing man?" that he is worried for his safety.

Gareth initially expresses his discontent with the motorist’s questionable turning method by politely saying: "Excuse me". But his polite tone is lost on the angry woman who tells him to "Get off the road."

It's a refrain often-heard by cyclists including our very own Paul Turner who offered his thoughts on the cars and drivers most likely to cut him up when he's cycling. This one however, was a Ford.

Such is the female passenger's anger, she barely waits for the car to come to a standstill before she jumps out bristling at the edges. "Listen now," she starts off. "I saw her, she weren't cutting the corner, she didn't see you." “What do you mean, she wasn’t cutting the corner?” comes Gareth’s baffled reply. Her argument is somewhat lost as the car continues to take the turn on the wrong side of the road and disappear out of shot.

Perhaps aware of this, she loses all sense of reason and continues to lay into Gareth: "Because you’re standing still there and there’s other traffic, and you’ll cause an accident," she shouts.

With that, the passenger jumps back into the car while Gareth continues on his way. She's still not finished though - strains of “we said sorry!” – and a few other things – fade away into the distance.

Speaking to road.cc, Gareth reckons that his close call, and the rather baffling stand-off that followed, provide an indication of "just how ‘anti-cyclist’ people have become".
