A recent period of self-reflection left me feeling terribly vulnerable due to how much I love riding bikes. I realized I didn't know how I'd survive if an accident left me unable to ride; a strange mental rabbit hole to go down unprompted, I agree. But today, I learned of Talan Skeels-Piggins' story and was reminded of our capacity to move forward in the face of adversity.
Skeel-Piggins is a British motorcyclist who just broke the 200 mph barrier aboard a turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa. But the most fascinating aspect of his achievement is that Skeel-Piggins is the first paralyzed motorcyclist to achieve this, meaning he now holds the motorcycle speed record under these parameters. The biker hit 200.254 mph over a mile run at the Straightliners World Speed Record event in England, and achieved a goal he'd been pursuing for 11 years.
