A driver had a costly night out in Liverpool after attempting to dump a mattress on the street.
Liverpool Council has continued its campaign of shaming fly-tippers as it attempts to tackle dumping around the city. In its latest post the council shared an image of a driver parked up, disposing of a couple of mattresses at the side of a road in the city centre.
Tweeting with the image, the council said: "A night out in the city centre can cost a few bob. But not as costly as fly tipping a mattress. Today we'll identify this car owner and then send a letter. The fine? £400 more than going the tip (free). Could have a boss night out with that and change for a tip."

The council has made a point in recent weeks of targeting and publicly shaming those who choose to dump items illegally around the city. The posts form part of a renewed effort to clean up Liverpool.
Yesterday the local authority shared an image of two men dumping furniture in the Kirkdale area from the back of a van. The post with the image said: "Hi guys, not sure why you didn't drive another 10 mins to take this bathroom furniture to Otterspool Recycling Centre? If you did, we wouldn't now be looking at taking your van. Expect a fly-tipping letter shortly. Yours, Liverpool City Council."
Last week the council also shamed the driver of a white van, who had been seen dumping a mattress on a city road. On that occasion, the council said: "Dear white van driver, We have your mattress. And, thanks to CCTV, we also have your reg plate. Expect a letter in due course asking for an explanation for fly-tipping at this location. For info, a £400 fine usually comes with such an offence."
The new approach to publicising fly-tippers is going down well with locals. On twitter, one user said: "Well done Liverpool Council." Another said: "Liking these posts, keep them coming. Dumping in the city is out of control."
