Here we take a look back at one of Dublin's most iconic former shops - Switzers department store on Grafton Street.
It's one of the many shops on the popular shopping destination street that was part of the fabric of life in the capital for generations of Dubliners.
The former department store first opened its doors way back in 1838 at 91 Grafton Street and later acquired the building now home to Brown Thomas that resides on Grafton Street and Wicklow Street.

Switzers will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure to walk through its doors as a luxurious store where you could treat yourself to a special purchase and often spot celebrities strolling through the various concessions.
Some Dubliners will hold memories of the shop from the other side of the counter. Switzers would have been the first part-time job for many teenagers and young adults during the 70s and 80s.
After a day out in town when you were all shopped out, the shop's cafe, which was known as "The Birdcage", was an ideal place to recharge and watch the world go by.
For many Dubliners, their memories of Switzers would go hand in hand with the Christmas period. The capital would eagerly await the reveal of the shop's Christmas window displays which would be marvelled over during the festive season.
Not only was it a shopping destination during the festive season but many children would have fond memories of meeting Santa at Switzers.
Sadly, Switzers served their last customers in 1990 as it was bought by the Brown Thomas group. Did you know that the Switzers sign still remains on the Wicklow Street side of the building? Have a look the next time you're in the area.
