Britney Spears’ fiancé Sam Asghari has broken his silence following her baby announcement

After finally escaping the control of her father after a 13 year conservatorship in November and tragically losing her pregnancy last month, the mega-star’s ex-husband clearly had other ideas about how her “surprise”, low-key wedding ceremony in LA was going to play out.
According to reports from the US this morning, Spears’ former partner Jason Alexander, 40, was arrested by police after attempting to crash her wedding to former personal trainer Sam Asghari, 28, at her home in Thousand Oaks, California.
“She’s my first wife, my only wife... I’m here to crash the wedding,” Alexander, a childhood friend of Spears’ who was married to the star for just 55 hours in 2004, reportedly told his followers in an Instagram livestream. He said that Spears, 40, had invited him - which seems unlikely, given reports since that she is “absolutely livid” and wants him “aggressively prosecuted” for the disruption.
Those who were invited, however, certainly made up for Alexander’s decidedly un-glamorous performance. Madonna, Paris Hilton and Donatella Versace - the designer of Spear’s bridal gown - were among the A-listers reportedly in attendance at the home ceremony.
From their (very) eye-catching outfits to the family members notably missing from the guest list, here’s everything we know so far.
Elvis, Versace and a homely feel in an Italian villa
The wedding took place at Spears’ 12,464-square-foot, five-bedroom, eight-bath Italian villa in Thousand Oaks, southern California. But the homely feel wasn’t without its lavish details.
Spears reportedly walked down the aisle to the tune of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love and wore a custom-made gown by Italian fashion icon Donatella Versace, 67, reportedly featuring an “off-the-shoulder cap sleeve and a deep V-shaped slit in the leg”.
Designing the dress was “a lot of fun, a lot of emotion,” Versace told reporters on her way to the wedding, saying the couple were “amazing together”.
Rumours that she’d be designing the dress had been flying ever since March, when Spears shared a series of Instagram pictures of Versace and her fiancee “up to no good” at her home.
A line-up fit for pop royalty
Versace wasn’t the only famous face among the reported 60-strong “inner circle” of guests at Spears’ wedding.
Her estranged father Jamie, mother Lynne, younger sister Jamie Lynn and two teenage sons might not have been in attendance, but a starry line-up of celebrity friends certainly were: Madonna, socialite Paris Hilton (and her husband Carter Reum and her mother Kathy), actress Drew Barrymore and singer Selena Gomez were among the Hollywooders believed to have attended last night’s ceremony. Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart was also seen entering the venue
Between them was, unsurprisingly, quite the display of outfits: Madonna reportedly rocked a rainbow-coloured gown, Gomez wore a blue suit, and Barrymore chose a brown, flowing dress. Hilton wore a slinky black cut-out dress with black mesh sleeves, and was spotted heading home with her mum and husband while wearing sunglasses inside an SUV.
US TV personality Maria Menounos was also spotted making her way home in a sleeveless teal velvet gown.
So why were Madonna, Hilton and Gomez among Spears’ chosen crew? Clearly, they’ve all remained within her supportive inner circle. Madonna and Spears duetted all the way back in 2003 and were famously pictured kissing on stage at the VMAs that year, and Hilton and Spears have been friends ever since their years of partying together in the early 2000s.
Both have been longtime #FreeBritney supporters during Spears’ conservatorship. “When I think of Britney Spears, I see the sweetest soul. A mother. A friend. A fighter. A young woman who grew up in the tabloid culture of the 2000s, when the paparazzi machine was accepted, unforgiving and cruel,” she wrote of her friend last year.
“Despite the darkness that has surrounded her life, Britney embodies joy and shares the light of her beautiful heart, forever the superstar. So we stand by her and root for her as she turns pain into purpose, her unwavering spirit stronger than ever.”
Gomez’ friendship with Spears appears to have blossomed rather more recently. The pair might not have a close public relationship but the regularly praise one another on social media. “You’ve always been beautiful and a huge inspiration to me,” Gomez wrote on Instagram after Spears quoted her song Kill Em With Kindness. “You’re rare beauty!!!”
Third time lucky?
Spears has been married twice before. She married Alexander in Las Vegas in 2004 but they divorced the same year, after annulling their marriage just 55 hours after saying “I do”.
He has reportedly been charged with “trespassing, vandalism and two counts of battery” after last night’s gatecrashing livestream, which shows him storming into a marquee set up in the grounds of Spears’ home. Other reports say a “physical struggle” took place.
Spears also has two children, Sean and Jayden, with her dancer ex-husband Kevin Federline, who she divorced in 2007.
Almost a decade later in 2016, Spears met Asghari on the set of a music video and they’ve reportedly been in a relationship ever since.
They announced their engagement in September, shortly before she was freed from her conservatorship, and revealed the tragic news that they’d suffered a miscarriage last month after trying for a baby, with Asghari saying they were trying to remain “positive”.
“This man has been with me through it all !!!! I don’t know what I would do without him so I think I will keep him around a bit longer...,” Spears wrote on Instagram on Valentine’s Day before the annoucement.
Clearly, she cemented that vow last night.
