Canberra and Auckland are the next cities in line for A-Leagues club expansion with the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) on Tuesday confirming they plan to introduce a men's team to partner Canberra United, as well as a second New Zealand club, ahead of the 2024-25 season.

This is the first phase of expansion that the APL has organised following their unbundling from Football Australia in 2020, and marks a shift away from the process that saw Western United and Macarthur FC join the A-Leagues in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
