A kicker competition is coming to the New York Jets

Greg Zuerlein’s poor efforts might have finally cost him his job with the New York Jets.

The Jets (2-6) lost 25-22 to the New England Patriots (2-6) in Week 8.

A few common themes have following New York this season. First off, losses. Second, missed kicks.

Zuerlein, 36, missed a 44-yard kick and an extra point in the three-point defeat. He leads the NFL in missed kicks with six.

A day after the loss to the Pats on Monday, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced there will be a kicker competition on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium. If someone impresses, Zuerlein could be on is way out.

“We’re exploring all the options right now,” Ulbrich said. “We really are. So we’re going to bring the kickers in for a workout, see where they stand and make a decision after that.”

It’s the second time the Jets are bringing in placekickers to tryout. Because it’s Round 2, it’s unlikely Zuerlein survives this time–Even with New York’s quick turnaround against the Houston Texans (6-2) on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 9.

Ulbrich discussing the kicker battle can be found in the SNY clip below:
