A.J. Brown asks Padres for workout, says he’ll be better than Michael Jordan

Is Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown contemplating a return to baseball? Well, it appears it’s at least on his mind.

Before being a second-round pick of the Titans in 2019, Brown was actually drafted by Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres in the 19th round of the 2016 MLB draft after starring in the sport in high school.

Of course, Brown decided not to commit to the MLB, but he did take part in multiple spring trainings with the Padres, and has joked about possibly going back to a sport that he has said was his “first love.”

On Wednesday, the Ole Miss product wondered aloud (jokingly, we hope) about playing both football and baseball, something we’re sure the Titans would love.

He even went as far as to ask he Padres for a workout, and also said he believes he’ll be a better two-sport athlete than Michael Jordan.

This isn’t the first time Brown has talked openly about possibly playing two sports, but the chances of him actually doing so are zero.

It’s hard enough to deal with the physical rigors of the NFL, something Brown knows all-too-well, and adding another sport on top of that seems almost unfathomable in this day and age.

Not to mention, as Brown said back in 2020 in an article by John Glennon for The Athletic, head coach Mike Vrabel and the Titans likely wouldn’t be a fan of such an idea.

“My junior year in college. I knew I was going to leave (for the NFL) and a part of me still wanted to play both. But I just didn’t know how an NFL team would take that. I didn’t want to scare nobody away, either. Like Mike Vrabel would probably have a heart attack if I said I wanted to play baseball in the spring.”

Brown has been doing just fine for himself in the NFL, as he’s become one of the best receivers in the league during his first three seasons and is set to get a huge payday when his rookie contract expires after next season.
