Surgeons in Baku removed a giant keratin horn growing from the skin of a man's right cheek, closed the defect with reconstruction, and sent the specimen to pathology. The lab report found what the horn itself could never have revealed: squamous cell carcinoma sitting at its base.
The case, from the Department of Oncology at Azerbaijan Medical University, was published in Georgian Medical News. It arrived weeks after a separate team reported a 4-centimeter horn on the left cheek of an 83-year-old woman who had lived with it for more than 15 years.
