A games company released agentic tools to generate infinite AI slop, and of course you have already guessed that it’s Roblox

It seems to me that every weekend that I sit down to write about what's happening in video games, some company out there comes up with a radical new way to use AI, despite the fact that everyone and anyone is hating on the technology's involvement with art. Sure, it has its uses, but fully generating games should never be the end goal; that's not what Roblox wants to hear.

As per GamesIndustry.biz, Roblox is going all in with AI by introducing "agentic" tools that will help aspiring creators make experiences for the game essentially in collaboration with an AI agent that would be a "collaborative development partner that works with creators to analyze the game’s code and data model, ask clarifying questions, and turn a complex prompt into a highly detailed, reviewable, editable action plan."

On top of "helping," the AI component will also allow users to generate actual content, including meshes and models, paving the way for fully generated experiences on the platform. Furthermore, from the videos provided by Roblox in a post regarding this AI agent, a user is shown typing in a prompt and essentially watching the entire thing build itself out, as well as autonomously controlling the player character and performing set commands.

It seems to me that they're working hard to automate as much of the development process as possible, since the combination of the agent doing so many things on its own based on single prompts and AI-generated content and assets that would later be added to the experience is essentially boiling down development to a back-and-forth between you and the text box. I am as skeptical about this as you can imagine, and I have no hope that this will lead to better games whatsoever.

In fact, what I predict will happen is that loads of people who previously wouldn't have possessed the skills necessary to create something of actual value will hop onto this feature and spam-create so many experiences that they'll make Steal a Brainrot look like Da Vinci's paintings by comparison. AI slop never brought anything good to anyone and will certainly not be a good thing for younger audiences to be exposed and "used" to, not that they aren't being fed AI-generated scraps already.

Roblox Corporation was bound to pursue AI at some point, but I never could have imagined that it would be to this degree. It is genuinely throwing the whole concept of development into the AI meat grinder, where, in the end, mass production will be all that matters.
