It’s not a good day for one former Michigan State starting quarterback.
Payton Thorne has been reportedly benched and lost his starting spot with the Auburn Tigers. Justin Hokanson — who covers Auburn for On3 — reported the notable news on Friday.
Thorne is in his second season with the Tigers after transferring during the spring portal window in 2023. He started all 13 games he played last year for the Tigers, and was the starter in each of the Tigers’ first two games this year. Thorne, however, had a brutal performance in last week’s loss to Cal — which included four interceptions.
