A&E treatment times in Forth Valley fall short of national target

New figures have revealed that just under two-thirds of A&E patients in Forth Valley were seen within four hours in the week to February 20.

The latest data from Public Health Scotland reveals that 1,094 people were seen within the region’s accident and emergency units for the seven-day period - with 389 of these seen within the guideline mark.

It means 64.4 per cent of patients were seen within the four-hour target, well below the 95 per cent outlined as a national guideline and also a fall on recent monthly data which showed an improvement in Forth Valley’s treatment times towards the target.

The figures do show a sharp increase in the numbers treated by eight hours waiting time - as 97.3 per cent were seen within that time period.

The weekly data follows a rise in A&E waiting times for Forth Valley recorded in the month-by-month numbers, which reported 77.6 per cent of patients being seen within four hours for January 2022, compared to 68.4 per cent for the last month of 2021.

Local figures were reflective of the wider trends seen across Scotland, with only three health boards - Tayside, Western Isles and Shetland - coming close to or beating the 97 per cent treatment time guideline within four hours in January this year.

The January A&E four-hour treatment time for Forth Valley was also higher than the national average across Scotland, with NHS Scotland recording a total of 76 per cent of people being seen within the target time.
