'A dodgy one' - Liverpool told to replace Mohamed Salah with 'magnificent' striker

Liverpool have been told to cash in and sell Mohamed Salah this summer and replace him with Robert Lewandowski.

The Reds forward continues to be the subject of intense speculation as his contract situation rumbles on. Salah’s current deal is set to expire next summer, and there are no signs yet of an agreement being reached.

A report in The Athletic on Wednesday claimed that Salah is apparently prepared to leave Liverpool as a free agent at the end of his contract. It was stated that unless the club improves their current offer to the Egyptian then he will leave Anfield when his deal expires next summer.

It has also been claimed that Salah’s preference would be to remain in the Premier League, were he to leave Liverpool, and that there is no doubt that he will remain at the club at least until next year. The report goes on to say that the length of a possible new deal is no issue for Salah, with a two-year extension being suggested.

The ECHO understands negotiations are ongoing between the forward's representatives and the club, with Salah about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal that was signed in 2018. With this in mind, Liverpool are being told to make a move for Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski.

Like Salah, Lewandowski’s future has also been the subject of speculation. Reports have claimed that the Poland international is likely to leave Bayern this summer.

Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie thinks Liverpool should sell Salah this summer, and believes Lewandowski could be a wise replacement.

“If Salah goes, who do you bring in? It’s better for him to go now so Liverpool can get some money for him,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“That’s easier than him going for nothing next summer. Then it is who do you bring in?

“Lewandowski? He’s a fair age now isn’t he?

“He probably has another couple of years in him and Klopp will know him well.

“He would be magnificent, huge. It’s a bit of a dodgy one, all of this stuff with Mane as well.”
