It’s rare for an athlete to make waves in the fashion world. But when tennis player Naomi Osaka arrived at the 2026 Australian Open in January, her ethereal outfit made headlines. A tiered, pleated mini skirt worn over wide-legged trousers, topped with a gauzy veil cast from a wide-brimmed hat and accessorised with a sculptural parasol. Perched atop both hat and parasol were butterflies, a nod to the viral moment from the 2021 Australian Open, when one landed on Osaka’s face mid-match.
