'A club legend' - Leeds United family react to Mateusz Klich's Elland Road departure

Leeds United last night confirmed the exit of long-serving midfielder Mateusz Klich following the Whites' 2-2 Premier League draw against West Ham United.

In his final appearance at Elland Road, the Polish international entered proceedings as a 63rd minute-substitute and made a significant impact to help earn Jesse March's side an invaluable point.

Klich received a guard of honour from his teammates at full-time as Leeds staff and players donned t-shirts in tribute to the 32-year-old. He also paid an emotional goodbye to supporters, appearing to be in tears before departing the hallowed turf one, final, time.

Evidently a popular member of the Whites' squad, Klich made 193 appearances during his time in Yorkshire and played a vital part in helping Leeds complete a long-awaited return to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.

Having netted the first goal of Biela's famous reign in August of 2018, Klich started 111 of the 112 league games Leeds played between August 2018 and January 2021.

The termination of Klich's contract was confirmed post-match ahead of an impending move to MLS outfit DC United. A club statement read: "Everyone at Leeds United would like to thank Mateusz for his efforts during his time at the club, his contribution is truly unforgettable."

Klich also penned an open letter to Leeds supporters which partly states: "The supporters of this club are unlike anyone else, which is perfect for me. I feel that you understand me as a player and as a person, and I understand you and represent you on the pitch too. I think this is the meaning of 'Klichousery'."

In the aftermath of events, below is a taste of how Klich's teammates reacted to his departure from the club.
