A Cardiff bar has been ranked as the top LGBTQ+ bar in the UK, according to a new survey. Popular bar and nightclub Mary's on St Mary Street has pipped others to the post as the top gay bar in the UK.
Commissioned by The Bottle Club, the bar was ranked by the number of Instagram followers the bar has, the number of hashtags, the distance to public transport (nobody wants to walk that far after a few gins), and Google rating score.
Mary's has become a popular destination in Cardiff since swinging open its doors in 2015. Read More: The WalesOnline Pinc List is back for 2022 and we want your nominations
The venue is home to some amazing local talent, such as Polly Amorous and Justin Drag. RuPaul's Drag Race alum, Victoria Scone, regularly performed at the bar polishing her style at the central venue before hitting the big time.
Another bar recognised by The Bottle Club is the newly opened Tonight Josephine, which regularly holds themed lunches based on Moulin Rouge, Mamma Mia and The Spice Girls. The bar is an Instagram favourite, boasting over 80 thousand followers on the platform, with endless photos capturing the pink interiors and disco lights.
The Cardiff site showcases a new look for the brand that has amassed a legion of fans in London and Birmingham. Originally created with a focus on 'Millennial' culture (with the infamous pale pink hue adorning its walls), the new venue is refreshed with the rise of Gen-Z in mind.
Alongside their iconic 'Well Behaved Women' sign, the venue features a new acid-green neon, sporting the words 'Kiss the Frogs and Make Them Cry'. The windows are lined with vibrant pink vinyl and bright green booths will line the walls. You can take a look inside what has become one of the city's hottest new bars here.
As well as looking at the top venues across the UK, The Bottle shop also ranked the biggest LGBTQ+ party destinations. Cardiff ranked eighth on the list, perhaps unsurprisingly falling behind iconic LGBT+ friendly cities such as Brighton and Manchester.
